Dr. Kaestner completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida. She then attended Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale and earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. She served a year-long internship at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Following her internship, Dr. Kaestner completed a year-long residency with The Renfrew Center in Coconut Creek, Florida. The Renfrew Center is a residential treatment facility for women 14 years of age and older who are diagnosed with eating disorders and other co-occurring conditions. Dr. Kaestner also has experience providing treatment for children, teenagers, and their families at a community mental health center in Fort Lauderdale, and providing therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults at the Broward Children’s Center. In addition, Dr. Kaestner has taught several undergraduate level courses at Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Kaestner has training and experience in conducting individual, family and group therapy with clients struggling with a variety of different challenges including but not limited to: eating disorders, self-injury behaviors, trauma, separation anxiety, depression, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, and adjustment disorder. Dr. Kaestner particularly enjoys working with children, teenagers and their families, especially in the areas of medical conditions and subsequent difficulties adjusting and eating disorders. Dr. Kaestner also provides psycho-educational testing, is familiar with the ‘Response to Intervention” system in the school system, and enjoys collaborating with schools. Dr. Kaestner mainly works from a cognitive-behavioral framework, utilizing client centered play therapy with children when appropriate. Dr. Kaestner is bilingual, speaking both English and German fluently.
